Stevenson is of Mexican origins, however she is American as a national. The desire to be a sportsperson was born as a toddler. Gerina began playing golf when she was 15 years old. Gerina finished her high school education at Goddard High School. As a high school student, Gerina won the New Mexico golf state tournament. A volleyball player, she was also a participant in state tournaments. She was enrolled at the University of Texas, Texas during the 2003 academic year. In her final year, she won every tournament she entered. Through her college years, she received the Conference USA Player of The Award and the UTEP Female Sports Athlete Award.
